The CW dominated the 2000s with viewers tuning in to see new episodes of Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and One Tree Hill, but that chapter could be coming to a close as ViacomCBS and Warner Media are considering selling the network. A likely buyer is Nexstar Media Group, but the CW hasn’t responded with any public statement yet, just that they are exploring ‘strategic opportunities’. Recently the CW has made the most of their money by selling to the streaming giants like Netflix which have shown the regulars from the early aughts, and any original content they did produce, such as Riverdale, failed to get traction on traditional linear TV. ViacomCBS wants to focus its attention on the streaming service Paramount+, and WarnerMedia is concentrated on growing HBO Max.
