Coinbase’s ad this year was a big gamble, and maybe that was because it was simply a bouncing QR code that was a reflection of classic DVD sleeper screens. This crypto player was apparently holding a full house because just about every person in every home was scanning that QR code. In fact, the rapid unprecedented success for $15 dollars in free bitcoin offer behind the coin pulled so many clicks that it shut down the website. It also had other brands poaching their success, such as meta which was quick to release a QR code of their own on Twitter which linked to the VR after party. Coinbase’s bet could have other brands being more experimental in their advertising in the upcoming years.
